AGRANA, the fruit, starch and sugar group, has extended its presence in Africa by acquiring 49% of Elafruits SPA. Elafruits is located in Akbou, Algeria employing around 100 employees and it generated around 7 million euro in 2017 financial year. AGRANA is a global fruit company that maintains 29  production sites in 21 countries.

Elafruits also makes fruit purées and bases for the beverage industry. AGRANA considers Algeria as a strategically important market as it has the highest per capita consumption of fruit preparations for yoghurts in the region.

According to AGRANA CEO Johann Marihart:

“This acquisition is another move to consolidate our leading global position in fruit preparations. The existing product portfolio and the option of expanding our production capacity close to major customers will accelerate AGRANA’s growth in North Africa.”
